Quickstart

Catalyst campaigns target users based on their location. User location is determined by the Pulse SDK using device radios, sensors and beacons.

The first step in setting up a campaign is to ensure your targeting locations have been added to the Catalyst Platform.

Add locations and beacons

Location

Locations are the key physical points of interest to your business such as stores and venues, where you wish to engage users.

  • You can add locations manually, or upload them in bulk. See Locations for more information

  • Catalyst can target users around thousands of locations. Thus, it is recommended that locations are categorized using Tags to make them easier to use in Campaigns. See Tags for more information

Use tags for easy management

Tags can improve productivity when targeting thousands of locations in a single campaign.

Beacon

Beacons are small Bluetooth devices that can be placed in your locations to provide more granular targeting. They emit a constant signal which is detected by Pulse's SDK and then used for contextual engagement.

Beacons require Bluetooth on the mobile device to be ON for detection.

  • Once your locations have been setup, add beacons that are installed in those locations. See Beacons for more information

  • You can target thousands of beacons using Catalyst. Thus, it's recommended that you use Tags to categorize them whilst adding. See Tags for more information

Add apps

Register your apps to target within Catalyst.

Create a campaign

You can use both Geofences and Beacons on Catalyst to create contextual engagement experiences.

  • Beacons are ideal for engaging users inside stores and buildings where location accuracy is limited. Beacons can provide up to 5 meters accuracy

  • Geofences are invisible fences drawn around physical locations. They are ideal for engaging users within 100 meters of a location

  • Beacons and Geofences can be used independently or together depending on your use case

  • You can further improve your targeting by adding audience Segments to your campaign. For example, you can target a certain age-group or gender with specific messaging to improve engagement rates. See the Segments page for more information
